Swedish characters not displayed

Swedish characters: å ä ö Å Ä and
Ö are not displayed correctly using Nitrogen.
Attached is a simple HTML file as well as a small Nitrogen file
with these funny characters.
I have managed to display swedish characters in table cells but don't understand why it works in this context. In that project I found that after an AJAX replace the table stopped to display the swedish characters.

I solved my problem with åäö by adding a call to
wf:content_type("text/html; charset=UTF-8"),
to all my pages.
